About MorpethNet The MorpethNet website was launched in June 1998 with the aim of creating an integrated Wesite by means of which the Town and District of Morpeth could be promoted locally, nationally and worldwide, for commerce, tourism and residence. The website has subsequently been redesigned and changed its name to MorpethWeb, a joint project with Morpeth Town Council, funded by the Regional Portal (2001) Ltd. Since its launch, MorpethNet has proved to be more successful in many respects, and less so in others, than was ever anticipated. From a modest start, the site now attracts an average of 1000 visitors per month. Perhaps more impressive is the fact that those visitors request up to a million page impressions per year. From the site's daily activity log, it is apparent that, no matter what attracted the visitor in the first instance, most of them stay for a good "browse" round the site. MorpethNet is deeply indebted to all businesses who, by taking advertising subscriptions, have supported the work of maintaining the site. It has proved costly, not only in financial terms, but in time and effort, to make the site a success. It is our belief that a small market town like Morpeth can only succeed in a ruthlessly competitive environment, if all the agencies, businesses and organisations in the district are prepared to co-operate over the promotion and development of the district. Shoppers, residents, tourists and visitors all need to be attracted to Morpeth, and the Internet is just one more medium by which this can be achieved. "Your neighbour's customer could well become your customer too..." |

Frequently Asked Questions: (or ask us a new question here)
Q: Is my site only available through MorpethWeb?
A: No - your website is your own. It will be available directly from the Internet, as well as from MorpethWeb, without visitors having to go to MorpethWeb first. We do like to put a little MorpethNet logo and link on it.
Q: What if I'm not on the Internet?
A: Not a major problem. You can have a website anyway, but your email can only arrive by Fax (asuming you have fax).
Q: Can I use my own Internet account?
A: Yes you can. All MorpethNet needs is to either have FTP access to your webspace, or to send you the site files (e.g. by Floppy, CD-Rom or Email) so you can put them on your webspace yourself.
Q: Do I have to use my own Internet Account?
A: No. Your site can either be part of the MorpethWeb website, or MorpethNet will set up a FREE account in your name, usually with Netdirect Online, or a full featured paid account with Valiant (a Sunderland based hosting company)
Q: What about a Domain Name? (e.g. www.mybiz.co.uk )
A: It's actually easiest if you don't have one to start with. In that case, MorpethNet will get you a FREE .co.uk domain name from Netdirect Online. (It remains free* for your use unless you decide to tranfer it away from NetDirect, in which case they charge about £120 for it.) If you do have a domain name, arrangements can be made to ensire your website is firmly attached to it!
*After the first two years, a bi-annual fee of £23.50 is payable
Q: Am I tied to MorpethWeb?
A: As closely as you want to be. Your site can look like part of MorpethWeb if you want it to, or it can be entirely separate, with no reference at all to MorpethNet except a one-line (small print) reference to the fact that the site was provided by us, usually at the foot of the front page. If your site is mentioned on MorpethWeb, you can have that reference removed at any time. The site remains your property, but the £50 fee covers a 12 month period. It is not refundable for part-years.
