How many hidden
little streams can you find in Morpeth? They are part of the natural drainage
pattern and carry surface water down to the Wansbeck. Most of them are now in
conduits under the town, but you can find them if you look.
In spite of their harmless appearance, on the
occasions when Morpeth has suffered from flooding, it has usually been caused by
one or more of these burns getting beyond itself.
